Once you have your aquarium set up and running it, there will come a time when you could fall into error.
The mistake lies in not waiting for the aquarium to mature before inserting the fish.
YOU WILL THEREFORE WAIT TO INSERT THE FISH UNTIL YOUR AQUARIUM ECOSYSTEM IS ABLE TO SUPPORT THEIR PRESENCE.
WHY?
As I mentioned in the LESSON 2, once you have started the aquarium, it will undergo a "maturation" period, in which various biological cycles will be activated such as NITROGEN CYCLE.
This means that the aquarium will not yet be ready to support the physiological waste of any inhabitants.
AFTER HOW LONG WILL YOU BE ABLE TO INSERT IT?
There is no fixed and general vesting period. This is because each aquarium is different from the others and, on a biological level, can have slightly different characteristics.
It is usually recommended to wait an average of one month so that the tank can have the necessary time to balance its biological cycles and then let the bacteria settle the filter materials and the bottom.
However, this period varies a lot depending on how an aquarium is started, you will have reduced times if you follow the steps described in the lessons step by step.
In addition, I recommend that you focus on the insertion of live bacteria, with products such as AMTRA PROCULT or the like since the time of bacterial settlement will significantly decrease.
To give you a roughly period of time, I advise you not to insert the fish before TWO WEEKS, or ONE MONTH if you have the patience to do things well.
This period will also depend on the number of fish you are going to insert.
HOW MANY FISH CAN YOU INSERT?
I highly recommend not going to insert all the fish you have selected at once, but to divide their insertion into several groups. This way you will avoid overloading your "biological filter" and will give it time to adapt to the presence of fish in the aquarium.
There is also no maximum number of fish to be included, this will depend on many factors such as the size of the tank, the different species and their compatibility.
I recommend not overloading the aquarium as you will have short periods of time with regard to water changes and you will therefore risk overloading of waste, compromising your biological balance, and you would also risk worsening any situations of incompatibility between the inhabitants
WHICH SPECIES TO INSERT?
AVOID MIXING TOO MANY SPECIES! For example, if you buy schooling fish such as characins, concentrate on creating a minimum number of 8/10 specimens, avoiding inserting 2 of one species, 3 of another, and so on ...
You will have to focus a lot on choosing the species and their compatibility. Remember that the fish you are going to insert will be forced to live together in a closed ecosystem, so you will have to avoid inserting incompatible species as they will surely end up colliding or otherwise stressing each other out.
There are thousands of known species in aquarists so I can't make you a complete list, what I recommend is to select species that already in nature are used to living in the same environment.
Also evaluate the area they will occupy in the aquarium, for example some Corydoras will occupy the lower part of the aquarium, rummaging the bottom in search of food.
Fish families such as Characins will predominantly occupy the central part of your aquarium, so you can create schools in the upper mid-range. On the other hand, fish such as Carnegiella will predominantly occupy the surface area of the aquarium.
I therefore recommend that you go and cover all three areas in the aquarium in order to create a balance between the species.
PESCI E AQUASCAPING
When dealing with a real aquascape and therefore looking for a perfect balance in terms of layout, I recommend including species that do not distract the eye too much from the whole. This is also to "dispel the myth" that generalizes aquarists to the sole figure of fish, there is a whole ecosystem to understand and discover and I think it is much more satisfying to focus on the view of an entire aquascape (including the fish that populate it) than to focus only on fish, without detracting from the latter.
